Dumpster Rentals in Los Angeles

Four Roll-Off Sizes and One Flat Quote, Trucked In From Sun Valley

Los Angeles is a hard city to haul trash in. It covers about 469 square miles and roughly 3.87 million people (Census Bureau, 2025 estimate), and a dumpster company lives or dies on the drive between its yard and your curb. Ours sits in Sun Valley, a few minutes from where the 170 meets the 5. More than a million containers have gone out of BG’s Big Box Service since 1981, so the routes are second nature by now.

Quick Takeaways

  • Four sizes: a 3-yard (4x4x6 ft), a 10-yard (2x8x18 ft, heavy material only), a Lowboy 20 (4x8x18 ft) and a Highboy 40 (7x8x20 ft).
  • What LA rentals run: in Los Angeles, prices typically fall between $425 and $1,300.
  • Driveway or street: your own driveway generally needs no permit; a public street in Los Angeles generally needs an encroachment permit.
  • Who shows up: BG’s own trucks and bins, dispatched from our Sun Valley yard on Bradley Avenue.

Matching the Container to an LA Project

Size the bin to the debris, not the house. A Los Feliz garage purge rarely needs more than the 3-yard, which holds about a mid-size pickup bed of junk.

3 Yarder
(Smallest Container)

Size:
4ft x 4ft x 6ft. Great For: Spring Cleaning & Smaller Jobs

Lowboy 20 Yarder

Size:
4ft x 8ft x 18ft. Two Doors Open for Easy Loading.

10 Yarder

Size:
2ft x 8ft x 18ft. Great for: Dirt, Concrete, Brick, Rock, Asphalt, Sand. Not Used for Trash.

Highboy 40 Yarder

Size:
7ft x 8ft x 20ft. Our Largest Available Container. Two Doors Open for Easy Loading

Busting out a driveway in Mar Vista? Concrete goes in the 10-yard, a low two-foot-wall box built for dirt, brick, rock, asphalt and sand, and never household trash. The Lowboy 20 is the remodel workhorse: two doors swing open, so cabinets, tile and roofing tear-offs from a Highland Park bungalow go in at ground level instead of over a wall. Gutting a whole house calls for the 40, seven feet tall and twenty feet long, which replaces more than a dozen pickup loads.

How a Sun Valley Yard Reaches the Whole City

The freeways fanning out of Sun Valley reach almost every corner of Los Angeles. Valley addresses are the short hops.

Over the hill takes more driving. A truck heads down the 170 and onto the 101 for Hollywood and Silver Lake, takes the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass for Westwood or Brentwood, or runs the 5 south toward Atwater Village, with the 134 east for Eagle Rock. The city line isn’t a wall, either, and plenty of our work sits just past it, in Glendale, Burbank and the foothill cities that run east along the 210 toward Pasadena.

Street Permits and Tight Driveways in Los Angeles

A bin on private property generally skips the permit; a bin on the street generally doesn’t. In Los Angeles, curbside placement calls for an encroachment permit. We’ll help with it.

Most LA driveways were poured decades before anybody thought about backing a roll-off truck up them, and the narrow ones in the older hillside neighborhoods show it. Look up before delivery day. Power lines and a spreading jacaranda can block a box from tipping off the truck. For a small job in Echo Park or Venice, the 3-yard is built to sit on a standard residential driveway.

What a Dumpster Rental Costs in LA

In Los Angeles, rentals typically run $425 to $1,300. Container size, debris weight and any city permit fee decide where a job lands in that range.

You get one flat quote up front, based on the box, the load and how long you keep it. Delivery and pickup are folded in. Holding a lower honest quote? We’ll match or beat it. Contractors renting several containers also get a multi-bin discount, which matters on a teardown that runs a heavy box and a big box side by side for weeks.

Westside Fire Rebuilds Take Planning

A Palisades rebuild needs its bins booked ahead and sized by weight. Lots coming back from the fire produce broken masonry and old footings. Both are heavy.

From Sun Valley, a truck crosses the Sepulveda Pass and heads west on Sunset, so give us a full day’s notice. How much of the old foundation is coming out? Tell us. That single detail decides whether the lot needs one container or a rotation of them, so have the answer ready when you book.

Los Angeles Dumpster Rental FAQs

What does a roll-off dumpster cost in Los Angeles?

Typically $425 to $1,300. The size of the container, the weight of what you load and any city permit fee decide where yours lands, and BG’s quotes a flat price with delivery and pickup included.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Los Angeles?

Not on your own driveway. Put it on a public street in Los Angeles and an encroachment permit is generally required. BG’s can walk you through the application.

What can go in a 10-yard dumpster?

Heavy material only. That means dirt, concrete, brick, rock, asphalt and sand, while household trash, lumber and drywall go in a different container.

Do you deliver dumpsters to Pacific Palisades?

Yes. BG’s sends roll-offs to Palisades fire-rebuild lots from its Sun Valley yard. Book a day ahead, since it’s a long drive over the Sepulveda Pass.

What can't you throw in a roll-off dumpster in LA?

Quite a bit. Batteries, tires, wet paint, refrigerators with Freon, asbestos, oils and chemicals are all out, and electronics aren’t accepted either, so pull the old TV before the bin arrives.
